The Taste of Music

Emilia-Romagna Region Promotional Events

on the occasion of the 2nd Annual Italian Cusine Week in the World
The exhibition explores the relation between music and food referring to four characters who have a special value for the region Emilia-Romagna: the peevish Giuseppe Verdi, fond of “risotto” and of country life; Gioachino Rossini, passionate gourmet travelling from Pesaro to Paris via Bologna; Arturo Toscanini, conductor from Parma but globally performing, of whom we celebrate this year the 150th anniversary of the birth; and Wolfang Amedeus Mozart, passing through Bologna for work purposes but attracted by candies -not simply gastronomic- during a summer in villa.
The exhibit is based on the book The Operatic Kitchen, Music and Food in Emilia-Romagna (Cucina all'Opera, Musica e Cibo in Emilia-Romagna) by Giancarlo Fre, architect and lover of cooking, food and fine arts, appreciated and well-known author of the blog “Il gastronomo educato” (“the polite gastronome”). The book tells about and criss-crosses the professional and private lives of musicians, composers and performers, their best-loved recipes, their passion for this land rich of flavours and fragrances.
