This year’s Days of European Film festival brings about fifty films from various parts of Europe and offers the most interesting films of contemporary European cinema. Italy is represented by 3 movies, amongst them: Sweet Dreams by Marco Bellocchio.
In 1969, 9-year-old Massimo's idyllic existence vanquished with the mysterious death of his mother. Years later, he is washed with painful memories. A compassionate doctor offers to help him open up and confront his traumatic childhood.
It is the story of a secret, hidden away in an envelope for forty years. The story of a child who grows up and must face the greatest pain imaginable – the loss of a mother. What will wound him more, fear of death, or fear of life itself?
This thrilling drama by the renowned Marco Bellocchio deals with one of the most sensitive themes of Italian cinematography – the relationship to one’s mother.
