"In The Earth Time"

Exhibitions

The exhibition In The Earth Time represents Italy at the Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale, during which the exhibition will take place. Following the main theme of the Ceramic Biennale -Ode to Life-, the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza presents four generations of artists, all involved in the numerous editions of ?the Faenza Prize, the oldest ceramics prize in Italy. Promoting Italian excellence and opening new avenues linked to the poetry of ceramics are two important aspects of the long traditions embodied in the Faenza Prize, started in 1938, which celebrates its 60th anniversary next year. The Prize becomes the filter through which the evolution of Italian ceramics can be interpreted, but also an instrument that can be adopted to measure how those different generations of artists dealt with the very same concept.
We cannot ignore the fact that Earth time guides working time. The title of the exhibition refers to the technical conditions of time, but also to an additional dimension of time on Earth, which can be interpreted as the time we are called to live upon the earth, or our physical and mortal dimension.
The selected artists’ work considers our time on Earth as something temporary and very much based upon the human exploitation of natural sources. The artists selected adopted four approaches that guide the four sections of the exhibit: From Still Life? to Object Dematerialization (Giacinto Cerone, Chiara Camoni, Giorgio Di Palma, Giuseppe Ducrot, Chiara Lecca, Matteo Lucca, Giovanni Ruggiero, Francesco Carone); The body as the measurement of time (Francesco Ardini, Silvia Celeste Calcagno); Apocalypse (Luca Freschi, Monika Grycko, Nero/ Alessandro Neretti, Salvatore Arancio, Marino Ficola, Paolo Polloniato, Andrea Salvatori); Spirituality After the Matter (Nicola Boccini, Antonella Cimatti, Mirco Denicolò, Luciano Laghi, Ana Hillar).
