Mthunzi Childcare Centre, Amani Ngo, ASSITEJ Zambia and Cooperative La Baracca’s production, MALOZA – THE MAN CUB, has been selected for the Main Program of Cradle of Creativity, a Theatre Festival for Children and Young People and the 19th ASSITEJ World Congress to be held in Cape Town in May 2017.
The overarching theme of Cradle of Creativity is “Intercultural Dialogue” and this collaborative production speaks so eloquently to this important issue. Since one of the main goals of the project is to establish a theatre company of young Zambians with a view to harnessing their skills in theatre, dance, music and acrobatics, workshops have been used to develop the skills. The participants or actors are a group of former Zambian street children followed by Mthunzi Childcare Centre. Apart from promoting performance skills among the children, the theatre company is intended to promote intercultural relations between Zambia and Italy.
The choice of THE JUNGLE BOOK is anchored on the idea that the young people involved in the production can relate to this story because, like Mowgli (Maloza in the adaptation) who grows up among animals away from society, they have experienced life on the streets. The young people’s experience of being rescued from the tough street life makes them enthusiastic and passionate about the production.

The show will be presented at the "Cradle of Creativity" festival in Cape Town thanks to the contribution and collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria, the Irish Embassy in Lusaka, BATA and the Barefeet Festival in Lusaka.
