The best contemporary international dance in all its fascinating aspects and dimensions is protagonist since many years at TANZFESTIVAL BIELEFELD. MM CONTEMPORARY DANCE COMPANY is called to open this year's edition with the new production LES SYLPHIDES / PULCINELLA.
The show is a contemporary version of two titles of ballet repertoire, both of them presented in Paris at the beginning of XX century by Les Ballets Russes of Diaghilev: LES SYLPHIDES, in the version of Spanish choreographer Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, an artist who has been working for many years for important companies such as the Nederlands Dans Theater, Hamburg Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Compania Nacional de Danza, and PULCINELLA by Michele Merola, artistic director and main choreographer of MM Contemporary Dance Company.
Two pieces of great fascination, which have already received unanimous consensus in shows made in Italy. Ramirez Sansano rereads Les Sylphides as a imaginary tale, attributing a role to each dancer, on a suspended journey between reality and dream, on the rareflected atmospheres of Chopin's extraordinary score. Merola instead investigates the Pulcinella charachter focusing on his solitary, melancholic and dramatic side, but also portraying it as an image of truth and freedom, using a soundtrack composed of some ballet music pieces and new music tracks by composer Stefano Corrias.
