“The Man from Moscow” by Alberto Cassani

Conventions/Seminars/Meetings

Who is Nikolaj Gogor? What happened to that money supposed to come from Moscow? Did anyone take it over? Why looking for them after so long?
It is around these questions that at a certain moment Andrea Cecconi’s life begins to turn around. Andrea is a middle-aged lawyer, son and nephew of historical communist militants, converted without enthusiasm to the rituals of the provincial bourgeoisie. His curiosity is awakened by a story told by his grandfather before he died. There is talk of funds to the old Italian Communist Party (P.C.I.) and of the role of a mysterious "man from Moscow". It seems like a dead and buried story of the past, until you understand that something does not tally up and there is a trail leading straight to nowadays Russia.
Driven by the urgency of finding answers on the matter, but also on himself, Andrea seeks the truth in a succession of tests to overcome, disturbing discoveries and unexpected encounters.
It is a tormented search, which crosses several temporal planes (from the Seventies to the present day, passing through the months following the fall of the Berlin Wall), and he will have to disentangle himself among fixers and alleged spies, secret services and Masonry, real people and false identities. It is a search made distressing by the ever more acute crisis of politics and by the abyss that every day moves the past further away from the present, cancelling memories and witnesses.
It is a search that only in Moscow can find answers...
