World premiere in New York of the show Butterflies written by Emanuele Aldrovandi, playwright and director from Reggio Emilia who has already received many awards in Italy and abroad. The play is now first staged under the direction by Jay Stern.
It is a fantastical tale of personal growth among sisterly love and sisterly rivalry in which self-discovery is not always accompanied by greater understanding of the other person.
As from the Hystrio award statement, it is a text «able to attract out attention, but also to move us with gleams of poetry» not only for the beauty and credibility of the two female characters, but also for «a bit magic realism that turns it into an odd black fairy tale in which the games are cruel and goodness is ambiguous».

Butterflies / Farfalle will be first staged in Italy in the coming season 2019-2020 under the direction by Emanuele Aldrovandi himself, produced by Associazione Teatrale Autori Vivi, ERT - Emilia Romagna Teatro, and Teatro Elfo Puccini of Milan.
.

The opening night performance in New York on May 29th will include a talkback with playwright Emanuele Aldrovandi, Laura Caparrotti, and Director of the Italian Cultural Institute Giorgio van Straten, as well as director Jay Stern, translator Carlotta Brentan, and the cast of Butterflies.
