Compared to many of his colleagues, even by name, Mario Monicelli can boast of a very long career, punctuated by numerous and splendid films, shot over a very long period. Films, in most cases, made in the wake of comedy.
Thanks to his witty spirit, Monicelli has matured with comedy, impressing on it those turns -from Big Deal on Madonna Street onward- that led it to universal recognition and model, with its mixing of dramatic and comic elements, to be imitated.
A recognized master of the genre, Monicelli achieved a series of notable successes, conquering over time also a consideration from the critics, until then not much open to those who used irony and a smile to look at the contemporary world.
The exhibition helps in remembering the salient moments of a unique path that has gone towards the public – Monicelli’s cinema has employed all the stars of the time- without giving up a spicy intelligence.
