Family Affairs is a collection of 234 portraits of people from families of all kinds - from small households to extended and elective families - met over four years in Europe and overseas. The installation is distributed on four screens and interweaves with other four screens of Homo Urbanus, the work by the filmmakers Bêka & Lemoine dedicated to urban spaces of metropolises on four continents. The two installations create a dense fabric of urban sounds, glimpses, faces and voices of people who inhabit specific places scattered in an uninterrupted urban geography that potentially connects us to each other. The barriers exist and some of them are tragically impassable, but human beings continue to look tremendously alike.

Family Affairs portraits were shot in 14 different territories: capital cities such as Cairo, Budapest, Athens, Warsaw and Milan, widespread cities developing between Bologna and Forlì, or Cagliari and Quartu, in the canton of Lausanne and in the triangle between Lille, Valenciennes and Gent, small towns in Portugal, Torres Novas and Minde, and the tiny villages of Emborios and Pali in a small island in the Aegean Sea. The last one is new town born only 30 years ago in China next to the Hong Kong gulf: the megacity of Shenzhen (population 10 million).
