Four thirty-year-old young men in a small town on the Adriatic coast live in permanent waiting to become adult. During winter seasons, they slouch about in the billiard hall and the café, among literary ambitions, irreverent jokes, and easy erotic adventures, in a dimension of reckless idleness. Younger Moraldo follows them with naive admiration, but he gradually frees from the influence of Fausto, a third-rate playboy, and decides to abandon the protective warmth of the village and face a journey to Rome.
The film won the Silver Lion at the 1953 Venice Film Festival. .
The screening takes place within Cinema Italia, the Festival of Italian Cinema in Israel, which this year reaches its audience directly at home. Thanks to the co-operation by the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tel Aviv and in Haifa, Adamas Italia Israele, Cinecittà Filmitalia, and the Israeli cinematheques, four films of the Italian classic and contemporary cinematography – as long tradition of the Festival programming – are available via exclusive online streaming.
