The original play was written by Giovan Battista Andreini in 1651, just before the well-known work by Molière, and was discovered in 2006. Andreini portrays the story of Don Giovanni on a Mythological background, where the Titans, in war against the Gods, turn to Don Giovanni to bring chaos and ruin on earth. The language is a mix of comedy, tragedy, pastoral, and Commedia dell’Arte, the jests and typical characters of which give great expressiveness to the play. This adaptation exploits the infinite possibilities offered by the original text by assimilating new theatrical languages, such as shadow theatre and puppets. The play presents a contamination between different arts and genres, accompanied by the live music written and composed by Umberto Cavalli. The sound of traditional instruments, such as the hurdy-gurdy, the accordion, the ocarinas, and the tambourines re-creates the popular melodies and the perfect vibes for the adventures of the characters on stage. Don Giovanni by Fraternal Compagnia began its journey in 2015, with a tour in Japan supported by the Italian Cultural Institutes of Tokyo and Osaka, the Universities of Kumamoto and Humamatsu, and the Festival Luminarie of Kobe. The show has been completely renewed for this edition of the Festival OFF d'Avignon (where the company has already displayed a work in 2019) and in November 2021 it will be on stage also in Hong Kong at the Festival of Italian Culture. .
