"The Forgotten Front" by Paolo Soglia and Lorenzo K. Stanzani

Cinema

On the occasion of Italy’s Liberation Day on April 25th, the Italian Cultural Institute is hosting the screening of “The Forgotten Front” by Lorenzo K. Stanzani, a documentary about the Resistance in Bologna, the largest city in northern Italy on the front line.
It tells the story of the war of the Allied forces from 1943 to 1945 on the Gothic Line, the German occupation of the city during the Republic of Salò, and the struggle for Italy's Liberation conducted by the partisans and the population supporting them.
The title recalls the expression used by the New York Times on 11 December 1944, when the Allied advance in Italy stopped for many months, frozen in winter, leaving the Resistance with the burden of fighting the Nazi-fascists on the ground while the Americans and the Russians were rushing towards Berlin from France and Eastern Europe.
The authors recovered unedited and rare cinematographic and photographic materials.
The documentary  was produced by Bologna based Orso Rosso Film in co-operation with Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and received the support - among others - of the Emilia-Romagna Film Commission.
