'Beyond Borders' international project - Boundaries of Memory

Theatre

This work session of the 'Beyond Borders' international project takes place in Nagaland, state in the north-eastern region of India on the border with Burma. It will focus on the study of the Nagaland’s performing art tradition and the intercultural and artistic exchange under the direction of Instabili Vaganti’s director and theatre pedagogue Anna Dora Dorno. Performer and dramaturg Nicola Pianzola and young dancer Maria Stella Zangirolami also take part, beside three local dancers of Naga culture.
The group will be working at modernising the local tribal dances to produce a first work-in-progress creation that will be further developed in a following stage scheduled in Italy on May 2024, at the PerformAzioni Festival.
The research activities will be developed in co-operation with TaFMA – the Task Force for Music and Arts of the Nagaland Government – one of the international partners of the project – and include a series of interviews and meetings with members of local tribes aimed at making an anthropological theatrical docufilm on the Nagaland’s performing arts tradition.
