SERIE FUTURE - FUTURE CONCERTS

Music

Celebrating the centenary of Luigi Nono, born 1924, an Italian ensemble (FontanaMIX) and a German one (Das Neue Ensemble) have co-created a special anniversary - project, gave life to a program that aims to trace a path that ranges from the reception of the twelve-tone method, moving on to serial thinking, up to the experiments of today. Nono has been one of the most relevant expressions of the avant-garde, was a strong personality of the Italian music culture, he took part on the Italian political life, and probably today is more known and played in Germany than in Italy. The idea of this project is to realize a program in which the two ensembles (Das Neue and FontanaMIX) could perform together music not only by Nono, but also by Schoenberg (of which just on this 2024 we also remember the 150th anniversary) and pieces by more recent composers. For this reason, the program involves some composer as Johannes Schollhorn, Andrea Sarto, Rebecca Saunders, also for investigating how the Nono (and Schoenberg) musical thought was passed on to the new generation of composers. There is a significant ethical continuity between Schönberg and Nono, due to their poetics and radicalism musical thinking; this ethical sense of composing represented a fundamental legacy for her subsequent generations and for all those who have that incessant desire for musical innovation drew inspiration for own research. The Das Neue Ensemble Hannover, in this context and for this occasion, has commissioned a new work by Johannes Schöllhorn, which will be premiered together with pieces by Schönberg (Drei Stücke für Kammerorchester and Begleitmusik zu einer Lichtspielszene), by Nono (Canti per 13), and by two other authors of different generations: Rebecca Saunders and Andrea Sarto. All the pieces will be performed by an enlarged ensemble composed of members of both the FontanaMIXensemble of Bologna and the Das Neue Ensemble of Hannover. The same program will be held in Bologna the 2 may and represents the inauguration of the FontanaMIX concert seasons at the Ex Chiesa di San Mattia in Bologna.
In Hannover, the concert is part of the Klangbrücken Festival 2024.
